Before investigating the teaching of silence in the Rule of St Benedict, the
author of this book finds it helpful to consider briefly the general interest
in the topic of silence today from philosophical and theological points of view.
Although there is no intention of doing justice to the bibliography of silence,

field and that silence is of interest to modern man. Is this because it is a
